  • Surplice Bodice Casual Pink Silk Linen Dress

It’s been hot here in Portland, last weekend reached 100 degrees. So, I decided that I need an easy, cool little dress to pull on and go. I saw this dress on Nordstrom.com for $158 and thought “no way, I can make that for about $20”.

     I found this pattern

and ran out to the fabric store and got this perfect, lightweight and colorful fabric to make it in. It was a quick and satisfying dress to sew, and I even made the bias binding myself using one of those little gadgets that make bias tape along with using the iron. Perfection for a hot, summer day! Love it!

  • LRD (Litte Red Dress)

I have been a bad girl and have not blogged for quite some time, however I have a good excuse. I have been sewing up a storm lately, making one to two things a week. The folks at my favorite fabric stores are sick and tired of seeing me and tell me that I am obsessed with sewing and should really seek help.

So I suppose I need to start from here and go backwards.

ImageMy latest completed project is this drape neck elastic waist dress from McCall’s pattern 6069 (now out of print, but whatever, I like it!). I attempted to cut, mark and sew this little number on Saturday afternoon to wear out that night, but I ran out of time and finished it Sunday. It still was a quick and easy dress to make, especially after making it recently.

I look forward to wearing it, but it will have to be on a “skinny” day, as it is quite slinky and clingy around the cottage cheese zone on my butt. I’ll be sure to plan ahead, eat only veggies and no carbs, go for a run, do some squats and lunges and about 400 sit-ups, then I’ll be good to go out in public in this.

I hope that any readers enjoy this journey of sewing and fashion as much as I do.

  • Happy Friday th…

Happy Friday the 13th! I hope to get some sewing done this weekend. I want to finish my printed maxi dress (at least finish taking apart the bodice as I am not happy with how I cut out the printed pieces).

I also want to get started on my Kentucky Derby dress I am making from New Look pattern 6457 in a polka dot and cherry print and matching bow tie for dear hubby! I need to make a muslin of the bodice at the very least, plus draft and cut out the pocket pieces that I am adding to the pattern. I am so excited for this one; it’ll be super cute and a fun outfit to wear, especially the bow tie! Although, I hope we don’t look too much like Minnie and Mickey Mouse…
